Prague is the capital and largest city of the Czech Republic. Prague lies in the heart of Europe and belongs to the most beautiful European cities. For more than thousand years Prague has played an important part in the history of the nation, country and Europe. Prague represents one of the most prominent world centers of creative life in the field of urbanism and architecture and offers a fascinating blend of Roman, Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, Art Nouveau and Cubist architecture. The Historic Centre (more than 800 hectares) is listed in UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage Register. Historical Prague occupies both banks of the Vltava River and consists of six parts - formerly independent historical towns: Hradčany, the district dominated by the Prague Castle (Hradčany) on a hill above the west bank of Vltava River; Malá Strana, the 13th-century ‘Lesser Town’ located between the river and castle; Staré Město, the gothic 'Old Town' on the Vltava's east bank; Josefov, the former Jewish ghetto now a part of 'Old Town'; Nové Město or 'New Town,' built in the 14th century to the south and east of Staré Město and Vyšehrad on the the rocky hill on the Vltava's east bank south of the 'New Town'. These districts concentrate the majority of historical and architectural landmarks.Useful links:
